Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport

As part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s first major design-build airport terminal project, as well as the first significant U.S. airport privatization investment for Munich Airport New Jersey LLC (MANJ), the new Terminal A is a modern, state-of-the-art facility with a design capacity of 14 million annual passengers and 33 common-use gates. Selected as the interior fit-out architect to assist the MANJ development team, Gensler advanced several interior fit-out initiatives, including gate holdrooms, Arrivals Welcome Center, passenger amenities, select community small business concession spaces, a children’s play area, airline lounges, support facilities, and workspaces.

In addition, Gensler teamed with solutions-provider SITA to advance contactless travel solutions throughout the terminal. Terminal A is the first U.S. domestic terminal facility with a fully contactless “curb-to-gate” journey, deploying biometric passenger processing touch points, from check-in baggage drop to security checkpoint to the boarding gate. A transformational project focused on local impact, both economically and experientially, the elevated travel experience meets the Port Authority’s and MANJ’s expectations of a world-class airport terminal.
