As collegiate athletics continue to evolve, top programs increasingly invest in purpose-built environments that support athlete development, equity, and year‑round performance. For years, Maryland’s men’s and women’s basketball teams shared the Xfinity Center with multiple programs and events, resulting in limited access to training spaces and unpredictable practice schedules. This imbalance underscored the need for a dedicated facility that would support both teams equally, elevate performance resources, and create a true home for athletes to train, recover, and grow together.
The new Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center provides both programs with dedicated, equitable training environments tailored to athlete development and team culture. The facility includes collegiate courts, strength and conditioning labs, hydrotherapy and recovery spaces, and player lounges designed around each team’s needs. Advanced training and performance technologies support skill growth and wellness, while the mirrored layout ensures equal access and amenities. The result is a true home base that strengthens connection, improves daily routines, and elevates the Maryland basketball experience.
The performance center has transformed daily life for Maryland’s student-athletes, giving both programs reliable access to training, recovery, and team spaces that support peak performance. Coaches can schedule practices earlier, allowing players more time for academics and campus life. The equitable layout strengthens unity across programs, while the facility’s identity and amenities help attract top recruits. As a long-term investment, the center reinforces Maryland’s commitment to competitive excellence and provides a strong foundation for future success on and off the court.
