Challenge

Whitefield is a dynamic, tech-driven modern cosmopolitan suburb of Bengaluru saturated with the world’s largest technology firms. As a mature and thriving IT corridor, attracting tenants and employees to new office developments demands an emphasis on sustainability and wellness in the workplace. The client wanted a bold statement for the centerpiece office building of their 80-acre mixed-use development. The site sits at the narrow neck that connects the northern and southern portions of the campus.

Solution

Gensler designed an empathic workplace setting inspired by nature and wellness. A large 17-meter-wide opening carves through the ground floor, allowing pedestrians to flow between the northern and southern portions of the campus. Ground floor amenities blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. The building’s form responds to the site’s geometry, separating a lower and upper stack with an outdoor terrace for working and socializing. A façade with glass-reinforced concrete panels responds to different environmental orientations.

Impact

The LEED Platinum, Class A tower sets a new benchmark by prioritizing sustainability and human-centric design. The entire building has been leased to a large multinational technology firm, attracting talent to the mixed-use campus and its surrounding neighborhood. The pedestrian activity around and through the building has influenced the designs of the new developments around the campus, including a forest experience retail cluster also designed by Gensler.
