Seeking to update its 300,000-square-foot space while remaining true to its cultural traditions, this prominent Houston law firm also planned to stay in place during the renovation. The redesigned space incorporates high-quality millwork, finishes and furniture that is refurbished and reused. Elevator corridors were given a new, subtle palette of materials complementing the existing millwork. Large secretarial stations were replaced with fewer, smaller ergonomic workstations. To introduce more natural light into practice floors, solid walls were replaced with etched glass set into mahogany frames. A legible and honest environment was realized, where old and new elements are preserved, and enhanced as they come together.
