Challenge

As hybrid work has reshaped how people connect, it has exposed the limits of traditional office social spaces. DBS, repeatedly recognized as Asia’s Best Bank, needed more than a conventional breakroom or lounge to bring employees together. The bank needed a communal space that would rebuild community, support well-being, and reflect its people-first culture. The challenge: create a unifying spatial concept that could anchor the company’s culture across locations while advancing sustainability and employee experience.

Solution

Gensler reimagined DBS’ workplace social spaces as a modern “family room” rooted in Asian rituals of gathering, resting, and celebrating. Four storytelling zones move employees through moments of nostalgia, rest, and renewal — each grounded in sustainability through reused and reclaimed materials. Wellness nooks and flexible communal areas foster connection and ease. Supported by a rigorous change management strategy and a scalable playbook, the DBS Social Hub is now a destination employees genuinely call their own.

Impact

The Social Hub has become DBS’ cultural anchor, drawing people back into the office with a sense of purpose and authentic connection. Its reclaimed materials and sustainability-driven approach reinforce DBS’ commitment to a regenerative future, while wellness spaces reflect the bank’s deep investment in its people. With a unified design language and clearly documented standards, the Social Hub offers a model for how thoughtfully designed social spaces can strengthen a company’s culture across an entire region.
