Munich is one of Germany’s fastest-growing business hubs, attracting global companies alongside a strong local workforce. As organisations expand into new districts, workplaces are evolving to support more flexible ways of working while fostering a sense of community and identity. There is increasing demand for environments that balance global brand standards with local culture, creating workplaces that feel both connected and contextually relevant.
For LinkedIn’s Munich office, Gensler designed a flexible, community-focused workplace inspired by the city’s “Millionendorf” character — a village of a million people. Organised as a knowledge journey between a series of distinct neighbourhoods, the space translates the firm’s mission of connection and learning into a local yet distinctly LinkedIn workplace. Materials and finishes draw on traditional local references, such as breweries, rivers, and alpine culture, while contemporary, graffiti-style graphics reflect the city’s evolving identity.
The workplace supports a more connected and flexible way of working, enabling employees to move between collaboration, focus, and social interaction. By aligning global workplace standards with local cultural references, the project strengthens LinkedIn’s presence in Munich while supporting employee engagement. Shared spaces and learning-focused elements reinforce and encourage knowledge exchange, contributing to a cohesive and adaptable working environment.
