General Motors Information Technology (GMIT) Data Center

Warren, Michigan

Seeking to transform its outdated, individual-focused work environment into a highly collaborative, team-based workspace for nearly 500 employees, the GMIT Group commissioned Gensler to help design and execute a successful creative solution on a tight deadline and budget. Following workshops and field observations that analyzed workflows and teamwork processes, Gensler developed a simplified “kit-of-parts,” reducing the number of components in an 8x10-foot workstation from 21 to 10. This allowed the workgroup to reassemble the components into agile workstations that would encourage a collaborative work environment suitable for both concentration and socialization.
