In an effort to help Portola address changes in the real estate rental market for biotech and pharma companies, Gensler came in to transform one of the campus’s buildings—originally conceived as a build-to-suit, single-tenant R&D facility—to accommodate three tenants with shared amenity space.  Gensler’s rethinking and repositioning included dramatically increasing the amount of exterior glazing, moving lab space to the office perimeter, integrating interior and exterior collaboration space, and creating an amenity-rich environment. Gensler subsequently undertook complete exterior renovations of the two additional buildings and the rebranding of the entire campus.
