Sheraton Hotel

Escazú, San José, Costa Rica

Inspired by local contrasts, Gensler’s design for the new Sheraton focused on creating a comfortable, relaxed environment with a distinctive raw/chic aesthetic.  The raw quality, drawn out through exposed details of the concrete structure, rustic wood veneers, sisal rugs and linen fabrics, was accented by brightly colored fabrics and polished artisanal mosaics, reminiscent of 19th century San José homes and churches. Cross ventilation, natural lighting and other passive methods keep interior spaces comfortable without the need for air conditioning; cool colors and textures—including a living wall off the bar area—add to the tropical, laid-back ambiance, inviting the public inside to enjoy the amenities.
