University of Chicago, Levi Hall

Chicago, Illinois

Since 2008, Gensler has worked with the University of Chicago in multiple renovations of its administration building, built in 1948 as the school’s first Modernist facility. Work to date includes new office suites on six floors, including the President’s Office and Conference Room. In 2013, as part of an overall campus masterplan, the building’s ground floor was reconfigured to improve its connection to the rest of the campus. Following the demolition of the existing entry and lobby, a new custom curtain wall was designed to literally open up the hall, allowing it to serve as the university’s new “front door.”
