University of Houston, Classroom & Business Building

Houston, Texas

This new five-story, energy-efficient building effectively responds to the university’s rapidly growing student population. The facility is built on a highly constrained site, yet designers managed to incorporate valued outdoor gathering spaces between existing buildings. The building’s lower two floors provide modern teaching spaces with state-of-the-art equipment and informal collaboration spaces as well as administrative offices. The upper two floors were originally planned as shell space, but, because the initial program came in significantly below budget, they were finished to serve the expanding needs of Bauer College of Business. Employing UH design standards, the building harmonizes with the surrounding campus while looking toward the future of the university.
