The Boilermaker Shops at The Yards

Washington, D.C.

Once central to the United States’ military operations and its nearby Navy Yard base, the Boilermaker Building is now a central player in the rebirth of a D.C. neighborhood, Forest City’s The Yards redevelopment has transformed this area and re-imagined historically significant structures as mixed-use pavilions that are social centers amidst a riverfront park. The Boilermaker Building is a key piece of the historic industrial complex. It was adapted to create 46,815 SF of retail space. The design concept maintains the historic character of the original building, while addressing the contemporary demands of retail use and function.
