Designing a Healthy LA is the first city document to address the physical environment's impact on the health and well-being of Los Angeles residents. The report discusses opportunities and strategies for planning and design decisions that directly affect health, while recognizing the great diversity of cultures, physical settings and needs of Los Angelenos. The series of interrelated guidelines aims to increase physical activity, provide wider access to healthy food, elevate air and water quality and strengthen social connections to create healthier communities, while minimizing disruption and cost. Designing a Healthy LA is a significant step towards shifting perspectives on the relationship between the urban environment and our health.
