Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts

Houston, Texas

The Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will be the first vertical high school in Houston and one of only a handful in the nation. The five-story building will house four theaters, dance studios, art galleries, indoor and outdoor art studios, classrooms, wet labs, offices, indoor and outdoor dining, sky-lit rehearsal rooms, and a recording studio, supported by two levels of underground parking. The design themes of connectivity and transparency drove the design, utilizing large expanses of windows to showcase artists, musicians, dancers, and actors inside. The high school will double as a state-of-the-art performance and arts venue for the downtown arts district, creating a stronger connection with Houston’s art and business communities.
