The Vision Plan for South Main Street is a collaboration between Gensler and UC Irvine. Riddled with vacant stores and empty parking lots, the street lacked identity, walkability or appeal. Though a series of public workshops and open houses, the team engaged with the community to gather ideas for improving South Main Street. The Vision Plan creates a new heart in the center of Orange County. It recommends regulatory changes that provide more flexibility and a series of community programs that work in conjunction with the physical improvements necessary for the plan's success. Widened, landscaped sidewalks and plazas create places for people to gather while the Cultural Trail gives the street it's unique identity. Overall, the project contributes to an improved quality of life for the entire community.
